Devon’s Property Market
There are homes to suit everyone in Devon, ranging from the one bedroom city flats to landed country estates.
Devon HomeFinder can assist in finding your next home and advise on the best places to live.
Exeter dates from Roman times and Plymouth is steeped in maritime history. Both offer the range and styles of homes one would expect to find in an established city, from convenient purpose built homes in the centre through to the modern developments on the outskirts. Additionally there are sought after residential roads, fine period property and some fabulous riverside homes.
As you would imagine the villages which surround the cities vary in size. All are very popular as any modern developments are integrated with the traditional village homes to offer a wider choice in style and size.
Topsham is a small port and a much sought after town on the Exe Estuary, with Dutch style Merchant houses and other individual homes
Living by the sea has always been popular and whether you are looking for a fisherman’s cottage in the harbour or something set back on the hill with a view, there is always a choice in one of the many towns and villages on the coast.
East Devon has some delightful picture postcard villages, Budleigh Salterton and Sidmouth have always been popular for the retired, whilst Exmouth is the largest town in the county and has luxury marina apartments and excellent selection of modern family homes.
Torbay, known as the English Riviera, comprises Torquay, a popular holiday resort for the wealthy in the 18th century with some fine period residences, Paignton and the fishing village of Brixham with its fisherman’s cottages.
The South Hams is generally regarded as one of the county’s most sought after areas with harbours, inlets and beautiful countryside.
Towns like Dartmouth, Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Totnes have some fascinating properties.
In the north the coastline is more dramatic, Barnstaple and Bideford are the main towns, linked to the M5 by the North Devon Link road, offering a selection of homes from the modern starter to the detached residence with a view.
The market towns in West and Mid Devon offer the usual mix of property with the villages and hamlets in between providing the opportunity of more rural living or isolation.
Dartmoor dominates the centre of the county, the towns and scattered villages in the National Park have the traditional Devon Longhouses and other beautiful granite built homes.
Throughout the county there are the ‘Chocolate box’ cottages with ‘roses around the door’. For those who would like a character home without the upkeep, a barn conversion may be the answer. These provide modern living in a character building and over the years many have been made into fabulous residences on the outskirts of a town, village or in a more rural location.
Knowing the county as we do, Devon HomeFinder is ideally placed to find your perfect home.
